This survey is part of the project PROFUMO (Preliminary assessment of Route Optimisation for FUel Minimisation and safety of navigatiOn) a Feasibility Study Proposal of the ESA (Europe of Space Agency) Artes 20 IAP Programme. It is directed at shipping companies (managers and engineers of on shore technical offices) in order to collect information related to their needs from which deriving the service requirements for a weather routing service. Main survey's sections include: Energy saving policy. Navigation and route decision-making process. Impacts of the meteo-marine conditions on navigation. Present availability of meteo-marine data and their quality. Use of weather routing systems. Opinion and desiderata for future improvements.
