Das Buch thematisiert die Diversität mit der die gemeinsame, seit einem halben Jahrhundert in Europa gültige Restaurierungstheorie und -philosophie interpretiert wird mit Beiträgen aus ca. 20 Ländern Europas. Dadurch werden kulturelle und geistige Einflüsse in unterschiedlichen Kulturregionen Europas auf einem doch auf den ersten Blick einheitlichen Fachgebiet sichtbar und diskutierbar. Außereuropäische Beiträge aus USA, Mexiko, Ägypten und Neuseeland machen die Suche noch weiter spannend. Außerdem ermöglichen die Beiträge aus den Gebieten im Osten Europas, Ukraine, Kosovo, Nord Mazedonien und Armenien aber auch die Entwicklungsberichte z.B. aus Slowenien, die Suche nach den eigenen Wurzeln verstehbar. Das Buch bietet eine hochwertige Grundlage für die Reflexion restauratorischen Entscheidens und Handelns in der Buchrestaurierung, die schließlich zu fundierten, neu überdachten Erhaltungsmaßnahmen führen soll und bietet damit einen wichtigen Entwicklungsschritt in der Erhaltung unseres schriftlichen Erbes.

This makes cultural and intellectual influences in different cultural regions of Europe visible and open to discussion in what at first glance appears to be a uniform specialist field. Non-European contributions from the USA, Mexico, Egypt and New Zealand make the search even more exciting. In addition, the contributions from the areas in Eastern Europe, Ukraine, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Armenia, as well as the development reports, e.g. from Slovenia, make the search for one's own roots comprehensible. The book offers a high-quality basis for the reflection of restoration decisions and actions in book conservation, which should ultimately lead to well-founded, rethought conservation measures and thus offers an important developmental step in the preservation of our written heritage.
