The webinar "Co-designing the science and capacity we need for the Mediterranean region" (Figure 1) was convened on the 11th of November 2020 by the IOC-UNESCO, the Italian Oceanographic Commission (COI), UNEP / MAP, the European Commission, the Mediterranean Scientific Commission (CIESM) and the BlueMed Initiative. Building on the outputs of the Regional Workshop 'The Mediterranean Sea We Need for the Future We Want' organized in Venice in January 2020, the virtual conference congregated 237 experts from 48 countries and more than 100 international organizations among research institutions, NGO and private sector organizations. Discussions explored first the issues related to the collaborative research and best practices to deliver co-designed solution-oriented research. Then panelists dealt with the needs for capacity building, training and education at the Mediterranean level.
