In this respect, a key activity of the ECO2Fuel project is the optimization and upscale of materials and components, including anode and cathode catalysts. MON is equipped with chemical synthesis reactors that can be used for scaling up catalysts' production in a sufficient quantity, which is essential to be implemented in the 1MW prototype CO2 electrolyser. Upon lab scale optimization, the synthesis of the anodic and cathodic catalysts will take place in large-scale reactors in MON premises. Special attention will be addressed to synthesis conditions (temperature, pH, precursor(s), reaction duration, current, solvent concentration, etc) for catalysts upscaling; from lab scale to batches up to 2 kg at the intermediate step (semi-pilot scale) and to batches up to 20 kg at the pilot scale.
