Report of the Workshop on Age estimation of European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) WKAGESP 2019

The PLNRDA workplan halieutic resources data collection) (Articolo 25.4 Regolamento (UE) n. 1380/2013), Annual Coordination Meeting, that met on 23-24 July 2019, recommended the realization of a Workshop on Age Reading of European Anchovy to discuss adopt a common protocol for the age assignment and for validation studies in this species. The Workshop on Age Reading of European Anchovy (WKAGESP) chaired by Gualtiero Basilone, Italy, and Pierluigi Carbonara, Italy was held in Capo Granitola, Trapani (Italy) from 18 to 21 November 2019. Readers pertaining to 7 Geographical Sub Areas (GSA’s) from Italian waters took part in this workshop (GSA 9, GSA 10, GSA 11, GSA 16, GSA 17, GSA 18, GSA 19), with a total of 8 participants from 5 laboratories [(IASCNR (Capo Granitola, Trapani), COISPA (Bari, Italy), IRBIM-CNR (Ancona, Italy), CIBM (Livorno, Italy), University of Cagliari (Cagliari, Italy)]. Eight participants to this workshop are readers for the assessment of anchovy.
