This JRC report aims to investigate the maturity level of Internet of Things (IoT) on-going development and reflect upon its contribution to the Digital Transformation of our Society. Besides, the document tries to identify possible challenges and opportunities by analysing some global data sources. In doing that, we also assessed the advantages and limitations of using multiple different data sources. The analyses results can be used as a good starting point for a further and more systematic socio-economic analysis. This document is a result of a more general work of JRC.B6 that developed a methodological approach for the identification of emerging technological trends to be applied universally in ifferent technological domains.
