The present invention refers to the field of chemistry and, in particular, to a new N-alkyl-D-glucamine based macroporous polymeric cryogel, and the improved process for the preparation thereof, to be used for sequestering and/or removing toxic contaminants such as metalloids and/or toxic heavy metals, oxoanions, and negatively charged organic species, for example from water and/or soil.
