The aim of the fourth volume of the book series “Tourism Studies on the Mediterranean Region” is to offer novel perspectives on the role of tourism governance in dealing with the current challenges of this industry, particularly in the Mediterranean region (sustainability, massification, over-tourism, tourism-phobia, etc.). In doing so, the role of local communities and the social dimension of sustainability, not infrequently left behind and neglected, will provide its focus. Therefore, a basic question mark is whether, on this side, tourism governance has evolved enough (in terms of mechanisms of inclusiveness and social success metrics) to match the critical issues that the post-pandemic scenario has been raising and even aggravating.

Abstract
The aim of the fourth volume of the book series “Tourism Studies on the Mediterranean Region” is to offer novel perspectives on the role of tourism governance in dealing with the current challenges of this industry, particularly in the Mediterranean region (sustainability, massification, over-tourism, tourism-phobia, etc.). In doing so, the role of local communities and the social dimension of sustainability, not infrequently left behind and neglected, will provide its focus. Therefore, a basic question mark is whether, on this side, tourism governance has evolved enough (in terms of mechanisms of inclusiveness and social success metrics) to match the critical issues that the post-pandemic scenario has been raising and even aggravating.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
