The following report provides a cradle-to-gate LCA study for the metal recycling technology by Ecomet Refining S.p.A. Refining S.p.A. STIIMA-CNR was commissioned to prepare a full LCA study of the the recycling process which will be employed in the new plant that will be built in Treviglio (Lombardy, Italy), analyzing its potential environmental impact according to the ISO 14040/44 standards and compare the results with LCA literature studies on metals extraction in mines. As requested by the Commissioner of the study, the results were allocated to each metal obtained from the recycling process. Starting from the data of the plant in Spino D’adda (Lombardy, Italy), a model of the process was built for the technology that will be used in the plant in Treviglio. The LCA study includes raw material consumptions and energy consumptions, emissions of the process and waste disposal as well as other flows involved in the Ecomet Refining S.p.A. recycling process. The system boundaries and declared unit will be defined in accordance with ISO 14040/44 standards.
