Written heritage. New challenges and perspectives

The book addresses the current challenges and opportunities in preserving written heritage, as well as the attempts of professionals to prepare for upcoming crises. It was initiated with the efforts and activities of Conservators Without Frontiers. The protection of written material from wartime destruction was long overlooked; the authorities now wish for additional information regarding this matter. The book presents accounts of the recent wars in Europe and the Middle East. Significant topics covered in this book, such as preparing for natural disasters, addressing the impacts of climate change, and engaging the public in preserving written cultural heritage. In addition, there are some reports on the latest conservation treatment methods and results derived from the scientific investigation of the materiality of the written heritage objects. Finally, the book highlights the potential of artificial intelligence and contemporary technology in the preservation of the collections.
