The identification of metallurgical activity during excavation often presents significant challenges, both in stratigraphic interpretation and in the treatment and analysis of material remains. Investigating such evidence requires a careful balance between archaeometric and archaeological data, ensuring that the technical aspects of archaeometallurgy are consistently considered within their broader context. This volume, which examines two case studies from the Roman period, distinct in nature yet complementary, offers a valuable contribution, particularly given the limited research to date on Roman metallurgy in Italy. The study addresses the full operational sequence of the production process, from ore selection and metal extraction to artifact manufacture and alloy use, with the aim of reconstructing not only the economic, cultural, and social implications, but also the function and character of the sites themselves. The case studies of the Università Cattolica of Milan and the Episcopal Seminary of Verona further provide an opportunity to reflect more deeply on Roman urban production systems in Cisalpine Gaul, a region where artisanal activity played a vital role in the economy.
