The LUST study and the electronic Case Report Form

The following technical report describes the protocol, the structure of the web application for data collection, and the Electronic Case Report (ECR) procedures for the LUST clinical trial, which aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of lung ultrasound-guided treatment in predicting major clinical events in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis. This project received funding of approximately €900,000 from the European Renal Association – European Dialysis Transplantation Association (ERA-EDTA, now ERA) and involved 20 dialysis centers across Europe. The document describes in detail the protocol, inclusion and exclusion criteria, randomization procedures, and the procedures for performing instrumental examinations and data collection. Given the multicenter nature of the study, data collection was conducted via an electronic record, the structure and use of which are detailed in the report.
