The Ministers of Defense (MOD) of several European countries have signed a Programme Memorandum of Understanding (PMOU) to launch a joint programme of technological research in the defense field known as European Co-operation for the Long Term in Defense (EUCLID), on the 16th November 1990. EUCLID consists of Common European Priority Areas (CEPAs) which initiate and organize specific Research and Technology Projects (RTPs). 'Underwater detection and related technologies' are covered by CEPA 10. The actual proposal answers to the request for the RTP 10.14 entitled 'Optimal Techniques for Hull Geometry'.
