Opere polimateriche di Anselm Kiefer: studio dei materiali

In this paper the results of the investigation on a large fragment (300 cm x 18 cm) of a multi-material artwork from the German contemporary artist Anselm Kiefer are reported. This fragment was cut from the canvas of an in-progress painting and considered from the artist himself as material without any artistic value. Hence, this fragment, acting as mock-up, provided unlimited number of samples and made it possible to deepen the knowledge on the techniques and the materials used by Kiefer. The analyses were done by using invasive and non-invasive methods, such as fiber optic reflectance spectroscopy (FORS), right on the surface of the sample fragment, and mid-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) on the collected samples.

Vengono qui presentati i risultati dello studio effettuato su un frammento polimaterico di grosse dimensioni (300 cm x 18 cm) di un'opera dell'artista contemporaneo tedesco Anselm Kiefer. Ritagliato dalla tela di un dipinto in corso di realizzazione e considerato dall'artista stesso materiale privo di alcun valore, questo frammento, permettendo un campionamento senza limiti, ha consentito di approfondire la conoscenza delle tecniche e dei materiali impiegati, utilizzando metodi d'indagine di tipo invasivo e non. Importanti informazioni sono state ottenute utilizzando la spettroscopia di riflettanza con fibre ottiche (FORS) nell'intervallo spettrale 350-2200 nm, direttamente sul frammento campione, e la spettroscopia nel medio infrarosso (FT-IR), la risonanza magnetica nucleare (1H-NMR) e la diffrattometria a raggi X (XRD) sui campioni prelevati.
