The presence of the bioactive glass layer could produce a strong biological bond between the bone and the prosthesis, improving the stabilisation of the prosthesis itself. While in thepast RKKP bioactive process has been tested in order to deposit RKKP bioactive glass on zirconium oxide and titanium substrates. The characteristics of the obtained coating have been compared with the ones of a RKKP coating obtained by painting. The samples have been submitted to metallographic inspection in order to determine the structure of the coating, roughness determination and adhesion test according to standard ASTM C633-79. While the deposits obtained by painting, show very smooth surface and diffusion in the substrate material, plasma sprayed RKKP coatings show high roughness and porosity and good adhesion to the substarte, which seems to be suitable for bone cells adhesion.
