The underground of the Mediterranean has a pervasive role within the metropolitan scenario because although it may include many features of the construction of contemporary cities as is usually the case worldwide, the experience of the city is characterised main by the development of the above ground areas. Infact, if the underground and its caves have always been fundamental worldwide, for the initial steps towards urban developments, in several interior areas this relationdìship is much longer standing.
