The A24->T12 and A24->E2 zero-phonon lines of MgO: Cr have been studied as a function of Cr concentration, and the homogeneous component of the bandwidth has been estimated. The mechanisms responsible for the T12->E2 nonradiative transition, which cause the broadening, in this and similar systems are discussed.
