Equilibrium thermal averages and static correlation functions for a one-dimensional system with arbitrary nearest neighbor interaction are evaluated analytically in terms of the bilateral Laplace transform of the configurational Boltzmann factor. Explicit results are given for the static correlations of the position of the atoms of a Toda lattice and of a Lennard-Jones chain.

Abstract
