Abstract
We discuss the possible role of collisions in preventing wave breaking of the electron plasma oscillations in an inhomogeneous cold plasma. We find that in general the presence of damping delays wave breaking and that a local threshold damping rate-gamma(c) exists, beyond which the peaks in the density will remain finite and no wave breaking occurs.File in questo prodotto:
