Italian Experiences on Applied Virtual Reality: Opportunities Offered to the Industry

Present work represents an overview on Italian "actors" working in the scientific and technologic area of virtual reality. This paper, although not exhaustive, offers a meaningful summary about Italian situation; special attention has been given to the research and develop activities in the industrial field. A detailed introduction on fundamental virtual reality criteria and world applications are given. Italian scientific bodies have not shown, up to now, the same interest in industrial applications of virtual reality as they have done in other fields; much can be done also in this area thanks to transversal value of this new technique.
