Surveys of metal collections housed in 12 museums throughtout the Mediterranean basin have been carried out using a systematic survey approach, which involves using either a statistical methodoly in asssessing the technogly and conditions of a large sample of the objects, a data-mining technique to survey a random sample from the collection, or in case of silver based objects in depth diagnostic investigation of the chemical and mineralogical properties of a representative number of artefacts.
