A new class of conducting polymers, poly(3,3'-dialkyl-2,2'-dithiophene-5,5'-diylvinylene)s, have been prepared from dialkyl substituted E-(2,2'-dithienylethylene). Soluble materials bearing long alkyl chains have been obtained by either chemical or electrochemical synthesis. These conjugated polymers were characterized by NMR, FTIR and UV-visible-NIR spectroscopy.

Abstract
