Abstract Careful characterization of (Y 0.95 Sr 0.05)(Ba 1.5 Sr 0.5) Cu 3 O 7- ? and Y (Ba 1.5 Sr 0.5) Cu 3 O 7- ? ceramic samples has confirmed the simultaneous substitution of Sr for both Y and Ba in the YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 structure. The substitution at the Y site has a distinct effect on the superconducting properties of the material. The inter-grain transport properties of both samples in an external dc field are enhanced with respect to undoped YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 ceramics
