A new parameterization for turbulent dispersion in a convective boundary layer is proposed. The model is based on turbulent kinetic energy spectra and Taylor's diffusion theory. The formulation, included in an advanced dispersion model, has been tested and compared with vertical and lateral dispersion schemes reported in the literature, using data from field experiments. The application of a statistical evaluation shows that the proposed parameterization has the best overall fit to the data.

Abstract

A new parameterization for turbulent dispersion in a convective boundary layer is proposed. The model is based on turbulent kinetic energy spectra and Taylor's diffusion theory. The formulation, included in an advanced dispersion model, has been tested and compared with vertical and lateral dispersion schemes reported in the literature, using data from field experiments. The application of a statistical evaluation shows that the proposed parameterization has the best overall fit to the data.
