The electrochemical behaviour of poly(2-chloroaniline) was studied by cyclic voltammetry and a.c. impedance as a function of the concentration of HzSOa solutions. In concentrated solutions polymer oxidation occurs as a two-stage process, thus showing the existence of an 'emeraldine' form not detected in ~< 2 M HzSOa solutions. Both polyaniline and poly(2-chloroaniline) can mediate the oxidation of SOz, the performance of the latter polymer being more stable with time. Mediated oxidation of SOz occurs within poly(2-chloroaniline) film under kinetic control, so that cmTent is proportional to film thickness.

Abstract
The electrochemical behaviour of poly(2-chloroaniline) was studied by cyclic voltammetry and a.c. impedance as a function of the concentration of HzSOa solutions. In concentrated solutions polymer oxidation occurs as a two-stage process, thus showing the existence of an 'emeraldine' form not detected in ~< 2 M HzSOa solutions. Both polyaniline and poly(2-chloroaniline) can mediate the oxidation of SOz, the performance of the latter polymer being more stable with time. Mediated oxidation of SOz occurs within poly(2-chloroaniline) film under kinetic control, so that cmTent is proportional to film thickness.File in questo prodotto:
