The planktic and benthic foraminiferal content of 15 cores collected on the Dosso Gallignani, a culmination of a ridge located along the axis of the central Adriatic Sea, has been quantitatively and semiquantitatively investigated. The study, integrated by calcareous nannofossil biostraigraphy, oxygen isotopic analyses and 14C datings, allows to identify a series of biostratigraphic events during the last 400 Ka. The morphostructural setting of the Dosso pointed out through high-resolution reflection seismic profiles, has been interpreted as the resuls of the interplay between eustatic variations and the recent and still active uplift in the area.
