A one dimensional ecosystem numerical model is used to simulate the ecosystem modification occurred in the Mediterranean sea during the Optimum Climaticum (9000-6000 BP) and test the hypothesis of high productivity and anoxia for sapropel S1 deposition. The model is forced by physical conditions derived from present day and Optimum Climaticum period simulations.

Abstract
