In this paper we illustrate the limitations of a standard statistical technique widely used to evaluate the goodness of an industrial process and describe a new method, the bootstrap, which is not dependent about any assumption on the distribution of the data. Some examples are given to illustrate the advantages of the new method in the quality control area.
