Through these years industries and academic institutes have strongly faced the problem of cutting process stability not only by modeling and interpreting the phenomena but also proposing methods to suppress vibrations or to prevent their occurrence. Some of these methods are based on proper cutting parameters selection (Spindle Speed Regulation - Spindle Speed Variation), others on the optimization of the machine tool dynamic behavior by means of active or passive damping devices. The goal of this paper is to give some simple but general guidelines to analyze the dynamic stiffness, that influence the Material Removal Rate, exploiting the dynamic interactions between sub-systems. Different cases have been analyzed: firstly the machine influence on the spindle dynamics, then the interaction between the control system and the mechanical structure, to define some stability oriented tuning criteria.
