Abstract

A model has been developed to simulate the nitration of salycilic acid by means of nitric and acetic acid mixture under adiabatic conditions, starting from initial concentrations higher than those adopted in previous studies. To this purpose the solubility dependence of 3-nitro and 5-nirtrosalycilic acid upon temperature and nitric acid concentration has been assessed an the regime of dissolution with reaction singled out. Good results have been obtained in the comparison of the experimental with calculated data.
