Abstract

In this paper are described the results of spectroscopic and chemical investigation on paper samples both from naturally and artificially aged paper. The analysis involves the structural paper features and the presence of occasionally added materials. Moreover the observation of both naturally foxed paper samples and artificially reproduced stains is reported together with the study and characterization of foxing spots of chemical and biological origin. Finally, the effects of chemical and physical treatments of paper sapmples are investigated and compared to the not treated paper samples.
