Stereotipi linguistici come specchio di stereotipi culturali. Osservazioni sul 'lessico della migrazione' nella stampa italiana

How violent could be an apparently innocuous post? In this article I propose the results of a quantitative linguistic research conducted on stereotypes on migration subject. Data are extracted from a fragment of Italian press published in the second semester 2009. From the lexical analysis emerges that in Italian newspapers there are more likely harmful unexpressed or hidden stereotypes, than explicit ones. The offending nature of those hidden stereotypes is subsumed by the meanings inside the linguistic stereotyped form. In particular, the reflection will convey to some examples which demonstrate how often some stereotyped expressions full of inner negative or injurious connotations can be used superficially in the press, without caring the burden of their meaning. I consider in particular the habit of the unaware metalinguistic behaviour emerging from the use of phraseological expressions, common sayings, idioms and all those fixed linguistic forms which are so frequent in everyday language and in newspapers. This habit appears so "commonly accepted" that very rarely the use of negatively connoted stereotypes is assumed as violent or intentionally bad by native speakers. That use seems more likely as a detail, not even important, of a shiftless way of perceiving language. A laziness that appears guiltily and odiously present in daily communicative executions. Recognising such linguistic and mental structures, starting to observe them critically and trying to avoid them in the daily verbal and written phrasings, might contribute to settle a new good practice.

Quanto violento può essere un messaggio apparentemente innocuo? In questo articolo si propongono i risultati di una ricerca linguistica e quantitativa relativa agli stereotipi presenti in un frammento semestrale di stampa italiana sulla migrazione. Dallo spoglio linguistico è emerso che esiste uno stereotipo non esplicito, che si realizza nella non-espressione e nel lasciare inteso tutto il negativo che porta con sé. L'analisi si sviluppa sullo studio dei cotesti dei termini che denotano il "fenomeno migrazione in Italia" ponendo al centro della riflessione quelle espressioni che sono spesso usate con automatismo o con scarsa attenzione metalinguistica. In particolare le espressioni fisse, i modi di dire, la fraseologia idiomatica e tutti quegli stereotipi linguistici presenti nell'italiano usato nella stampa. La consuetudine all'uso 'spensierato' di espressioni intrinsecamente connotate sembra essere comunemente accettata e raramente è vissuta dai parlanti come dolosa o violenta. Essa piuttosto rappresenta una sfaccettatura poco importante di una sorta di inerzia linguistica, colpevolmente, o proditoriamente, presente nell'esercizio quotidiano della comunicazione.
