This paper sets out the results of a spatial analysis of the wreck at Torre Sgarrata and a study of the marble artefacts in its cargo. The ship was wrecked off Taranto, in about 200 A.D. The cargo was made up of unfinished sarcophagi and semi-worked blocks from two quarries in Thasos, but taken aboard and stowed in the same port. The sarcophagi are of two distinct types, differing both in form and type of marble (calcitic from Phanari and dolomitic from Vathy). Most of the semi-worked blocks are of calcitic marble; most of them are of parallelepipidal shape, while some are stepped.

Abstract
This paper sets out the results of a spatial analysis of the wreck at Torre Sgarrata and a study of the marble artefacts in its cargo. The ship was wrecked off Taranto, in about 200 A.D. The cargo was made up of unfinished sarcophagi and semi-worked blocks from two quarries in Thasos, but taken aboard and stowed in the same port. The sarcophagi are of two distinct types, differing both in form and type of marble (calcitic from Phanari and dolomitic from Vathy). Most of the semi-worked blocks are of calcitic marble; most of them are of parallelepipidal shape, while some are stepped.File in questo prodotto:
