The author publishes a new overstruck silver coin of Akragas on a corinthian double relief stater dated ca. 500 B.C. and discusses its evidence for the circulation and use of Corinthian coinage in Sicily during the archaic age. The first monetary systems adopted in Sicily during archaic greek age are also discussed, with particular regard to the problems concerned their origin and development in the Mediterranean area.
