This book chapter investigates into the possibility of applying Karl Polany economic sociology to the of study of the nowadays global economic and social system. Some Polanyi ideas about mutuality and gratuity, that are present even in market system models, are considered in current social phenomena such as the banks of time and the open source community file sharing.
