This essay examines some thematic convergences between the concept of language investigated by Ernst Cassirer in the first volume of the "Philosophy of the simbolic forms" and Vico's theory of language. The precedence of the poetic figured language on the practical utilitarian one emerges as one of main and more interesting contact points between the two theories.
