Andrea Sunyer cittadino di Cagliari e corsaro nella guerra luso-castigliana (1475-1476)

Pretendemos apresentar a figura de Andrea Sunyer, expoente da elite sardo-catalã radicada em Cagliari, no reino da Sardenha, no séc. XV. Sunyer relança a actividade corsária ao serviço de Jaime II, rei de Aragão, no quadro da guerra luso-castelhana, em torno da sucessão do reino de Castela. O empenho de Sunyer em Portugal com a armada do rei aragonês será motivo para a sua significativa promoção social. De facto, e por esta razão, será nomeado veguer de Cagliari. A autora sublinha, por um lado, que tanto o reino de Sardenha como os outros Estados da Coroa de Aragão, estiveram implicados na iniciativa da política ibérica do soberano, e por outro, que a classe mercantil sardo-catalã, muito actuante nos portos mediterrâneos ocidentais, se estendeu à própria actividade comercial dos portos lusitanos.

This study introduces Andrea Sunyer, leader of the 15th-century Sardinian-Catalan aristocracy from in Cagliari, capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia, and describes his activity as corsair at the service of Jaime II, King of Aragon, during the Portuguese- -Castilian war for succession to the throne of Castile. Sunyer's commitment during the Aragonese king's military campaign in Portugal contributed decisively to his social rising; for this reason, he was to later be appointed Veguer of Cagliari. This study emphasizes, on the one hand, how the Kingdom of Sardinia and the other States that constituted the Kingdom of Aragon were involved in the king's Iberian policies; and, on the other hand, how the Sardinian-Catalan merchants, who were highly active in western Mediterranean seaports, also extended their activity to Portuguese seaports.
