Four stations in Taranto Seas were choosen to study the effects of environmental conditions on surface phytoplankton communities. The results obtained show an high correlation between organic pollution and phytoplankton populations. In semi-enclosed areas like Mar Piccolo red tide phoenomena mainly occur in summer.
