Assessed VAM mycorrhizal status of 5 plant species growing in a serpentine soil in which a notable concentration of toxic elements such as Ni, Co, and Cr is present. The root systems of all the plant species examined were colonized by VAM fungi, with the exception of the typical serpentinophyte Alyssum bertolonii (Cruciferae). Four species of Glomus and 2 of Sclerocystis were identified.
