This work reports an account of our studies of the protonation of the dihydrides [(PP3)MH2], [PP3 = P(CH2CH2PPh2)3; M = Fe (1), Ru (2), Os (3)] and highlights the great potential of electronic spectroscopy in investigating the proton transfer reactions as well as elucidating the influence of the metal in this process.
