Efficiency and catch composition of three set gears (trammel net, traps and fyke nets) commonly used by professional fishermen to catch Sepia officinalis (Mollusca, Cephalopoda) were evaluated through fishing samplings carried out both on a sand-rocky and on a sandy seabed in the central Adriatic sea. The trammel net was the most efficient gear for the catch of S. officinalis on the sand-rock, while traps and fyke nets gave the highest catch rates on the sand. Independently from the type of bottom, these two last gears showed the highest species selectivity.

Abstract
Efficiency and catch composition of three set gears (trammel net, traps and fyke nets) commonly used by professional fishermen to catch Sepia officinalis (Mollusca, Cephalopoda) were evaluated through fishing samplings carried out both on a sand-rocky and on a sandy seabed in the central Adriatic sea. The trammel net was the most efficient gear for the catch of S. officinalis on the sand-rock, while traps and fyke nets gave the highest catch rates on the sand. Independently from the type of bottom, these two last gears showed the highest species selectivity.File in questo prodotto:
