Vengono presentati i geopolimeri come materiali adatti allo sviluppo di nuovi isolanti termici che potenzialmente abbiano i vantaggi dei comuni materiali isolanti organici e inorganici, senza averne gli svantaggi. Sono trattati tanto i meccanismi di sviluppo dei geopolimeri porosi (porosità intrinseca nano-micrometrica e porosità indotta da agenti specifici) quanto le correlazioni tra porosità e proprietà termo-isolanti, con un accenno ai settori applicativi
