In Apulia (Southern Italy), a virus with elongated and rigid particles was recently isolated from naturally infected chicory plants (Cichorium intybus) with leaf yellowing, malformations and chlorotic mottling. The virus, for which the name of Chicory yellow seed-borne virus is proposed (ChYSV), may be a new member of the genus Hordeivirus. The virus was partially characterised by biological and molecular tests, serology and electron microscopy. Transmission experiments by aphids (Myzus persicae) were negative, whereas the virus was transmitted at the rate of 25% through seeds collected from naturally infected chicory plants

Abstract
In Apulia (Southern Italy), a virus with elongated and rigid particles was recently isolated from naturally infected chicory plants (Cichorium intybus) with leaf yellowing, malformations and chlorotic mottling. The virus, for which the name of Chicory yellow seed-borne virus is proposed (ChYSV), may be a new member of the genus Hordeivirus. The virus was partially characterised by biological and molecular tests, serology and electron microscopy. Transmission experiments by aphids (Myzus persicae) were negative, whereas the virus was transmitted at the rate of 25% through seeds collected from naturally infected chicory plantsI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
