The possibility of assessing the influence of certain physical characteristics on the distribution of rainfall in a large area of eastern Sicily was tested. The multiple regression analysis (stepwise method) was used for selecting the "best" regression equation between monthly and yearly mean rainfall and some territorial characteristics. Multiple regression equations were calculated both for the whole area of study and for three homogeneous subareas. The values of correlation coefficients, mean square errors and differences between observed and computed values were calculated. Results indicate that reasonable accuracy may be achieved through the use oft the proposed regression relations, although less accurate if compared to statistical methods.
Per una vasta area della Sicilia orientale viene saggiata la possibilita' di quantificare l'influenza del territorio sulla distribuzione delle piogge. A tal fine, attraverso il procedimento di regressione multipla denominato "Stepwise", vengono individuate le "migliori equazioni di regressione" fra piogge medie mensili ed annue ed alcune caratteristiche fisiche del territorio. Oltre che per l'intera area di studio, le regressioni vengono elaborate per tre sottozone omogenee. In relazione ai valori assunti dai coefficienti di correlazione, dagli errori standard della stima e dalle differenze percentuali tra valori osservati e calcolati, si evidenzia che le relazioni deterministiche individuate possono costituire un metodo valido e di facile applicazione, anche se meno preciso rispetto ai metodi statistico-probabilistici, per la stima della distribuzione spaziale delle piogge medie nell'ambiente considerato.
