Abstract - In this work we report the presence of an antibacterial activity in the lipidic extract of the seaweed Cladophora rupestris collected in the Mar Piccolo of Taranto (Northern Ionian Sea, Italy). This extract shows bacteriostatic activity against the two human pathogens Enterococcus sp. and Streptococcus agalactiae as well as against several Vibrio species. Palmitic acid is predominant among the fatty acids and is presumably responsible for the observed antibacterial activity.
