A novel process based on the Pulsed Electron Deposition (PED), a low-cost technique, has been developed at IMEM-CNR in Parma, allowing the fabrication of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) - based thin film solar cells exceeding 15% efficiency. Fundamental issues and industrial opportunities will be discussed.

Abstract
