The synthesis under high pressure/high temperature (HP/HT) is a powerful tool to obtain new materials. Moreover, the application of external pressure induces structural changes, which are often responsible of peculiar properties; in this respect, the perovskite structure is a model system, for its ability to accommodate pressure-induced distortions in different ways, giving rise to metastable phases. In this lecture, the role of HP/HT synthesis and the importance of the availability of single crystals will be investigated, in particular on perovskite-based compounds exhibiting interesting properties, such as multiferroicity (manganites containing Bi), superconductivity (novel cuprates) or displaying unique ordering (charge, orbitals) phenomena (manganites with complex perovskite structure).

Abstract
The synthesis under high pressure/high temperature (HP/HT) is a powerful tool to obtain new materials. Moreover, the application of external pressure induces structural changes, which are often responsible of peculiar properties; in this respect, the perovskite structure is a model system, for its ability to accommodate pressure-induced distortions in different ways, giving rise to metastable phases. In this lecture, the role of HP/HT synthesis and the importance of the availability of single crystals will be investigated, in particular on perovskite-based compounds exhibiting interesting properties, such as multiferroicity (manganites containing Bi), superconductivity (novel cuprates) or displaying unique ordering (charge, orbitals) phenomena (manganites with complex perovskite structure).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
