The replacement of CFC-114 is still under evaluation, in particular as refer high temperature heat pumps application. Some pure compounds such as HFC-236ea, HFC-236fa, HFC-245fa, that are fluorinated derivatives of propane, have been proposed as possible substitutes, even if it is probable that the best alternative will be a binary or ternary mixture including one of these fluids. On the contrary of methane and ethane derivatives such as HFC-134a, HFC-32, HFC-125 etc., that were extensively studied in recent years, fluoropropanes are still relatively unknown and further experimental work is required to develop reliable dedicated equations of state useful for industrial applications. This paper presents the measurement of compressed liquid density data for the refrigerant HFC-236fa at temperatures ranging from 283 K to 353 K, with pressures up to 70 bar. The measurements were performed by means of an apparatus based on a vibrating tube densimeter (Anton Paar DMA 512). The estimated accuracies of the measured data are ±0.02 K for temperature and ±3 kPa for pressure. The densimeter was calibrated by using R134a as calibrating fluid and vacuum. The overall estimated accuracy in density measurement is within ±0.15 %.
