We previously reported on photofragmentation of C-60 in a supersonic He-seeded beam showing effects induced by re-vibrational cooling. In a Comment, Hansen et al, (Chem. Phys. Lett. 301 (1999) 105, this issue) pointed out that the observed experimental features could be explained by the presence of clusters in our beam. Here we show from experimental data and calculations that the presence of clusters, if any, should be only marginal in our experimental conditions so that it cannot explain the relevant effects present in our data.

Abstract

We previously reported on photofragmentation of C-60 in a supersonic He-seeded beam showing effects induced by re-vibrational cooling. In a Comment, Hansen et al, (Chem. Phys. Lett. 301 (1999) 105, this issue) pointed out that the observed experimental features could be explained by the presence of clusters in our beam. Here we show from experimental data and calculations that the presence of clusters, if any, should be only marginal in our experimental conditions so that it cannot explain the relevant effects present in our data.
