Abstract

The Jovian InfraRed Auroral Mapper (JIRAM) is a spectro-imager operating in the 2-5 micron range to be flown on the NASA JUNO mission to Jupiter. We present here the validation activities carried out on our radiative transfer codes in the context of the preparatory work for the JIRAM data analysis. Main lines of investigation consists in: a. comparison of different lines transitions databases for the evaluation of CH4 absorption b. evaluation of required wing size c. modelling of far-wing sublorenzian behaviour d. comparison of different multiple scattering algorithms in the thermal and solar-dominated regimes e. validation of the preconvoluted transmittances approach for fast evaluation of main gases absorption. Namely, the results of our simulations are compared against a variety of laboratory and space measurements, demonstrating the effectiveness of available radiative transfer tools and possible areas of improvements.
